Tractor manufacturer New Holland unveils a true innovation at the agricultural fair in Konya, Turkey: the T3 Electric Power. A 100% electric tractor with a 75 kWh battery pack under the seemingly ordinary hood.
The introduction of this T3 Electric Power on March 5, 2024, marks the second launch of an electric tractor by New Holland within a year. The T3 tractor is a small, compact tractor that belongs to the category of semi-narrow-track tractors.
Under the hood of the electric T3 tractor is a 75 kWh battery pack, providing 800 volts of high voltage for the propulsion of two electric motors. One electric motor drives the transmission and thus the wheels, while the other powers the hydraulics and the power take-off. According to the manufacturer, the electric motor for the wheels delivers a maximum power of 75 kW, equivalent to over 100 hp.
‘Robotic’ transmission
The electric T3 tractor still features a transmission, but it is ‘robotic,’ meaning the tractor electronically switches gears. Thanks to the electric drive, the maximum torque is available from a speed of 1 km/h. An optional 40 km/h speed mode is also available.
New Holland initiated the development of this tractor in 2019. The main challenge was to properly conceal the battery pack, according to the Turkish marketing manager of New Holland. The tractor is sold as a standard two-wheel-drive tractor, with four-wheel drive as an option.
Türk Traktör builds New Holland tractors
Officially, it is not New Holland but the Turkish manufacturer Türk Traktör that introduces this tractor. Türk Traktör is owned by New Holland and builds tractors for the New Holland and Case IH brands.
The new T3 Electric Power will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024, initially only in Turkey and possibly later in Europe. The suggested retail price of the electric T3 tractor has not been announced by New Holland/Türk Traktör yet.
